Gangtok, April 28, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday led the grand celebrations marking Sikkim’s 50th statehood anniversary, unveiling development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore and reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the Himalayan state’s growth and connectivity.
The Prime Minister attended the golden jubilee closing ceremony at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok during his two-day visit, calling the milestone a “historic journey of progress and unity” since Sikkim became India’s 22nd state in 1975.
Massive Development Boost Across Sectors
The projects launched span a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, connectivity, tourism, power, and urban development, aimed at ensuring holistic and inclusive growth in the northeastern state.

Officials said the comprehensive package is designed to accelerate Sikkim’s economic growth while preserving its ecological balance.

The event also featured large-scale cultural performances showcasing Sikkim’s heritage, with thousands of local artists participating. The Prime Minister addressed a massive gathering, highlighting the state’s role in India’s development narrative and praising its environmental achievements.
Ahead of the ceremony, Modi received a warm public welcome during a roadshow in Gangtok, reflecting strong local participation in the celebrations.
