Zakir Hussain’s contributions to music were overlooked in the 2025 Grammys’ ‘In Memoriam’ segment, disappointing fans who called it a regrettable oversight.

Published:

The omission of renowned Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain from the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards sparked significant backlash. Hussain, a four-time Grammy winner who passed away in December 2024, was notably absent from the tribute, leading fans to express their frustration on social media over the Recording Academy’s oversight of his contributions to music.

Hussain, celebrated as a leading figure in Indian classical music, made history in 2024 by becoming the first Indian artist to win three Grammy Awards in one event. He died on December 15, 2024, at 73, due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, marking a significant loss for the music community.

Fans took to X to voice their discontent, questioning how Hussain could be excluded from the memorial. One user stated, “How is it possible that Zakir Hussain was not mentioned in the Grammy obituary #Grammys2025?” while another called it a “major oversight.”
