On Friday, Pakistan asserted that the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train earlier this week was executed by "terrorists" who were in contact with "handlers in Afghanistan," while also accusing India of orchestrating the incident.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the head of the military's media division, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated at a news conference in Islamabad that it is essential to recognize that the primary backer of the recent terrorist incident in Balochistan, as well as previous occurrences, is our eastern neighbor, India.

Chaudhry also highlighted the media coverage from Indian mainstream channels, which relied on videos disseminated by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the separatist group behind the attack. He accused these channels of utilizing images that were either generated by artificial intelligence or sourced from previous incidents.

During a briefing that extended beyond an hour, Chaudhry, alongside Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, provided insights into the military operation—dubbed Operation Green Bolan—that resulted in the rescue of hundreds of passengers from a train after a 36-hour standoff that began on March 11.

Chaudhry reported that a total of 354 passengers were saved, while 26 individuals, including security personnel, lost their lives. Additionally, 33 BLA fighters were killed during the operation.

“The BLA terrorists halted the train using an improvised explosive device. Prior to this, they launched their assault in significant numbers, encountering a paramilitary checkpoint where they killed three soldiers. Once the train was stopped, they retained the women and children inside while taking the men outside as hostages,” he explained.

From November 2014 to January 2016, excise duties on petrol and diesel were increased nine times to capitalize on declining global oil prices, resulting in a rise of Rs 11.77 per litre for petrol and Rs 13.47 per litre for diesel. This approach more than doubled the government's excise revenue, reaching Rs 2,42,000 crore in 2016-17, up from Rs 99,000 crore in 2014-15.

On Monday, the government announced an increase in the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre for each fuel type. Nonetheless, retail prices will not change, as this increase will be countered by a decrease prompted by falling international oil prices.

An official directive stated that the excise duty on petrol has now reached Rs 13 per litre, while diesel is set at Rs 10 per litre.

This decision is influenced by the ongoing fluctuations in global oil prices and the tariffs levied by Trump, which are anticipated to boost revenue for the Union government.

Since August 2020, the city has recorded 26,787 two-wheelers, 31,506 three-wheelers, 5,266 four-wheelers, and 323 buses. The original goal was to convert 25 percent of all vehicles to EVs by 2024; however, current data shows only a 13 to 14 percent achievement. The new draft policy aims for 95 percent EV integration by 2027, marking the beginning of this ambitious transition.

The draft EV Policy 2.0 also stipulates that all garbage collection vehicles operated by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, and Delhi Jal Board must be converted to electric vehicles in phases, with a target of achieving a fully electric fleet by December 31, 2027.

Furthermore, it recommends that public transport buses managed by the DRC and DIMTS be transitioned to electric models. Moving forward, DTC and DIMTS will exclusively procure electric buses for intra-city operations while utilizing BS VI compliant vehicles for inter-state services under the new policy.

Additionally, private car owners will be required to purchase electric vehicles only if they already own two cars. This recommendation will take effect following the official notification of the EV Policy 2.0.
