Severe storms, including heavy rain and strong winds, struck Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) early Friday, leading to significant disruptions in air, rail, and road travel. Tragically, four lives were lost, over 100 flights faced delays or diversions, and major city roads became inundated as the storm coincided with the busy morning commute.
The situation in Delhi-NCR remains critical, with more than 200 flights either delayed or cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions. Among the casualties were four individuals, including three children, who perished when a tree uprooted by fierce winds fell onto a tubewell room in Dwarka. A neem tree collapsed in Khadkhadi Nahar village, Jaffarpur Kalan, claiming the lives of 26-year-old Jyoti and her three children.
Despite the swift response from police and fire services, all four were pronounced dead at RTR Hospital, while Jyoti’s husband, Ajay, suffered minor injuries. Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi were heavily impacted, with FlightRadar reporting over 40 diversions and nearly 100 delays, including rerouted flights to Jaipur and Ahmedabad, affecting services from Bangalore to Delhi and Pune to Delhi.
