Tragic Loss: Odisha Police Probes Nepali Student’s Untimely Death at KIIT

Published:

On Friday, India announced that the Odisha Police are probing the death of a Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, marking the second incident of this nature involving a Nepali enrolled at the institution in under three months.

The student, who was pursuing a degree in computer science, was found hanging in her hostel room on Thursday evening, according to police officials. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack police commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh stated that the investigation is being conducted as an unnatural death. “No conclusions have been reached yet, and we plan to speak with her parents,” he mentioned.

The student was expecting to return home on May 18 after her exams and had come to India last year to begin her education. Her father, who arrived at KIIT on Friday evening to collect her body, noted that he had spoken with her at 3 PM when she seemed to be doing well. “I got a call at 8 PM about my daughter’s passing,” he revealed.

In the meantime, the Nepalese government is coordinating with Indian diplomats to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the untimely death of the undergraduate student, the second incident in less than three months.
