Safe and Sound: India Successfully Airlifts Almost 3,000 Nationals from the Heart of Unrest!

Published:

India successfully evacuated nearly 3,000 of its citizens from Iran and Israel by Tuesday morning, utilizing C-17 heavy lift aircraft from the Indian Air Force to transport over 600 individuals who were transferred from Israel to Egypt and Jordan by road.

The initial group of 161 Indians who traveled from Israel to Jordan by road arrived in New Delhi on a chartered flight from Amman at 8:20 am on Tuesday. They were welcomed at the airport by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margrherita, as reported by external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on social media.

A subsequent group of 165 Indians, also moved from Israel to Jordan, was flown back to New Delhi from Amman aboard a C-17 aircraft. Upon landing at 8:45 am, they were greeted by Minister of State L Murugan.

Additionally, another group of nearly 300 Indians, who crossed from Israel to Egypt via the Taba land border, were evacuated in a C-17 aircraft from Sharm-el-Sheikh, according to officials.

The flights from Jordan experienced delays due to airspace restrictions imposed by West Asian countries following Iranian missile strikes in the region late on Monday.

The evacuation of Indians from Iran continued on Tuesday, with a chartered flight bringing 292 Indians from Mashhad to New Delhi at 3:30 am. This brings the total number of Indians evacuated from Iran to 2,295 since last week.

India had previously advised its citizens wishing to leave Israel to use land border crossings to either Jordan or Egypt, from where they would be evacuated on special flights.

Last week, India initiated Operation Sindhu to facilitate the evacuation of its nationals from Iran and Israel. Initially, Indians in Iran were transported to Armenia by road before chartered flights were organized from the Iranian city of Mashhad after authorities relaxed airspace restrictions last Friday as a special gesture.
