Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu.

Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has commenced a state visit to India, his first in nearly ten years. This visit serves to enhance the burgeoning partnership between the two countries across vital areas such as trade, energy, investment, technology, and regional collaboration.

Upon his arrival on Monday, he received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were present to extend their greetings, further solidifying the relationship between India and Qatar.

Sheikh Tamim’s state visit began on Monday, February 17, 2025, when he landed in Delhi at 6:45 PM at AFS Palam. He was welcomed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at 8:00 PM at Hotel Leela Palace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally greeted the Emir at Indira Gandhi International Airport, marking the start of the two-day visit.

On Tuesday, February 18, Sheikh Tamim is scheduled to receive a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10:00 AM, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Modi at 12:00 PM at Hyderabad House. At 1:00 PM, there will be an exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with media photo opportunities. Later, Sheikh Tamim will meet with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 7:00 PM. The visit will conclude with his departure at 9:05 PM.

Qatar is eager to broaden its economic collaboration with India beyond the conventional oil and gas sectors, seeking new business ventures and investments. Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Sayed, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, highlighted the importance of the Emir’s visit, which underscores the robust strategic partnership between the two nations.
