Published:

On Tuesday (local time), Dana Castaneda, the President of the Panama Assembly, expressed her support for India in its battle against terrorism following a meeting with a delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. In a conversation with ANI, President Castaneda stated, “We fully comprehend the message they have shared. Panama is committed to standing alongside India in this quest for peace, and we aspire to overcome terrorism together. We have discussed these matters extensively, which will enhance our mutual understanding in India’s struggle against terrorism.”

The delegation arrived in Panama on Tuesday to commence a crucial segment of its international outreach. Upon their arrival at the airport, they were warmly greeted by Dr. Sumit Seth, India’s Ambassador to Panama, along with members of the Indian diplomatic team. This visit carries a significant diplomatic implication, as the delegation is charged with communicating India’s unwavering position of zero tolerance towards terrorism.

Additionally, the delegation engaged in high-level discussions with Dana Castañeda, Panama’s President of the National Assembly, as well as senior Parliament members Edwin Vergara and Julio de la Guardia, the latter being a former Ambassador to India. Tharoor remarked that he articulated the objectives of the delegation’s visit and received “strong assurances of understanding and support for India’s fight against terror.”

The visit also featured the signing of the visitors’ book and a tour of the main hall of Panama’s National Assembly. “A positive start to our Panama visit,” Tharoor tweeted, reflecting on the day’s activities. Earlier, Ambassador Dr. Sumit Seth provided them with insights into various aspects of India-Panama bilateral relations and key areas for collaboration.

The delegation’s trip to Panama is part of India’s broader outreach strategy, aimed at enhancing diplomacy and cooperation in the global campaign against terrorism.
