India is setting its sights on new markets following record tea exports:
The Tea Board of India has announced that tea exports have soared to an all-time high, with 255 million kilograms valued at USD 924 million shipped in 2024.
To maintain this upward trajectory, the Tea Board is actively seeking out new international markets while also nurturing existing ones.
Deputy Chairman Saurav Pahari emphasized at an event for International Tea Day in the capital that tea exports have surged by 10% compared to 2023, marking a decade peak.
He stated, ‘Indian exports are thriving like never before. We achieved USD 924 million in tea exports and are now exploring new markets while preserving our traditional ones.’
India has now become the second-largest tea exporter, overtaking Sri Lanka, and the Tea Board is focusing on non-traditional markets such as Canada and Australia, which are increasingly interested in Indian tea varieties.
Additionally, the Board aims to improve tea tasting facilities in key regions and launch globally recognized courses to train professional tea tasters, establishing certification centers that will enhance brand value and export readiness.
