A Saudia Airlines flight transporting Hajj pilgrims landed safely in Lucknow, despite experiencing smoke and sparks from a wheel due to a hydraulic leak. All 250 individuals on board were evacuated without incident.
According to officials speaking to India Today TV, the Saudia Airlines flight, which was carrying 250 Hajj pilgrims, faced a technical issue with its landing gear upon its arrival at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport early Sunday morning.
The aircraft, designated as flight SV 3112, departed from Jeddah at 10:45 PM on Saturday and arrived in Lucknow at approximately 6:30 AM on Sunday. Airport officials reported that smoke and sparks were seen emanating from the left wheel of the plane shortly after it landed.
The pilot promptly halted the aircraft and notified air traffic control. Subsequently, the plane was pushed back and relocated to the taxiway, where all passengers and crew members were safely deboarded.
The airport’s emergency response team swiftly arrived at the scene and managed to control the situation within 20 minutes using foam and water. The issue was later identified as a sudden hydraulic leak that caused the wheel assembly to overheat.
Officials noted that this problem could have resulted in a serious incident had it occurred during takeoff. The flight had transported Hajj pilgrims from Jeddah and was scheduled to return empty to Saudi Arabia.
This incident occurred just days after a London-bound Air India plane crashed into the campus of a medical college in Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 PM on June 12, resulting in the deaths of 241 out of the 242 people on board, as well as 29 individuals on the ground.
