Global Unity Against Terrorism: Inside India’s Selection of 33 Key Partners

Published:

India is launching a significant diplomatic effort today to engage nearly thirty-three nations with a strong message against terrorism following the Pahalgam attack.

Seven delegations made up of parliamentarians from various political parties will travel to foreign nations and the United Nations Security Council to demonstrate the country’s unified and determined stance on fighting terrorism. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri provided a briefing to the delegations yesterday, and by Sunday, all teams will be en route.

During the briefing on Tuesday, Mr. Misri explained the criteria for selecting the 33 countries involved in the outreach initiative.

According to BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, approximately 15 of these nations are members of the UN Security Council, which consists of five permanent members and ten non-permanent members that rotate biennially.

Ms. Sarangi is a member of the delegation headed by JDU’s Sanjay Kumar Jha, which is set to visit Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. This delegation will be the first to depart today for the outreach program, starting with Japan as the initial stop.

Pakistan is presently a rotating member of the Security Council and will hold this position for the next 17 months. They are expected to assert their stance and make claims against India, highlighting the importance of India’s international engagement.

“Our government has wisely chosen to send MPs from various parties to visit different countries collectively, allowing us to convey our narrative to their bureaucracies and political leaders, while also denouncing Pakistan’s strategy of fostering terrorism. This is our duty,” stated the MP from Bhubaneswar.
