Countdown to Diplomacy: India-Pakistan’s Crucial DGMO Talks on May 12

Published:

India and Pakistan are set to engage in Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) discussions on Monday, May 12, 2025, in light of the ongoing ceasefire agreement, as stated by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Following three days of intense military conflict that began on May 7 with Operation Sindoor, the two nations reached a mutual understanding. Mr. Misri stated, ‘The Director-Generals of Military Operations will reconvene on May 12 at 1200 hours,’ suggesting that both countries will assess the ceasefire during these discussions.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, the Directors General of the three services held a press briefing concerning Operation Sindoor. DGMO Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai cautioned Pakistan that it would face severe consequences should it engage in any provocative actions. Additionally, another media briefing by the three Directors General is set for 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025. The officials emphasized that the ceasefire decision was mutually agreed upon by India and Pakistan, and that this new understanding would not alter the recent punitive measures India has implemented against Pakistan following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Since the launch of Operation Sindoor, various international parties have urged both India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions; however, India has officially stated that diplomatic relations remain intact, as both nations continue to maintain their diplomatic missions despite the ongoing military confrontations.
