Crisis in Dhubri: Local Markets Halted as Authorities Enforce Partial Curfew!

Published:

Guwahati: Communal tensions flared up in the Dhubri district of western Assam late Monday after suspected beef was found near a temple, leading authorities to implement prohibitory orders in the region.

Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath confirmed that the administration invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), due to concerns regarding possible communal unrest, disturbances of peace, and the threat of riots. The restrictions are currently enforced in areas under the jurisdiction of the Dhubri police station.

All shops and commercial establishments in Dhubri town have been instructed to remain closed until further notice in light of the escalating communal tensions. Additionally, the administration has prohibited gatherings of five or more individuals in public spaces, streets, and thoroughfares to avert any further escalation.

Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath has urged residents to stay indoors and maintain their composure, assuring them that the situation is being managed effectively.

“There is no cause for panic or emotional reactions. Although we are not imposing a complete curfew, a semi-curfew is currently in effect,” Nath clarified.

To ensure public order, both state and central security forces have been deployed throughout Dhubri, providing a robust security presence in sensitive areas.
