Unity in Purpose: NDA’s Path to Waqf Bill Success

Published:

In a groundbreaking move that highlights the strength of collaboration and commitment to social welfare, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has successfully navigated the passage of the Waqf Bill, a significant piece of legislation aimed at reforming the management of waqf properties in India. This success marks a pivotal moment in the NDA’s ongoing efforts to address long-standing issues within the waqf system, ultimately promoting transparency and better utilization of resources for community development.

Following the approval of the amendments to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill by the Joint Committee of Parliament on Monday, the BJP may now feel more assured about the Bill’s passage in the House when it is presented.

This increased confidence stems from the display of unity among NDA members during the meeting. Notably, allies such as JD(U) and TDP contributed to the proposed amendments, and the voting reflected a consensus among JD(U), TDP, and LJP (Ram Vilas) in support of these changes. This indicates a collective endorsement of the Bill in its amended form.

In contrast, during the committee’s initial meeting in August of the previous year, NDA allies JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), and TDP had adopted a “neutral” position, with at least two of these parties expressing the need to address concerns raised by Muslim organizations. This was particularly significant as it coincided with other government initiatives, including the introduction of lateral entry for experts into the bureaucracy, which was also under scrutiny from NDA allies.
