This visit marks the first Indian bilateral engagement at the level of the Prime Minister to Argentina in the past 57 years. It is PM Modi’s second visit to Argentina as Prime Minister, following his attendance at the G20 Summit in 2018.
During this visit, PM Modi is expected to engage in extensive discussions with President Javier Milei to further enhance the India-Argentina partnership across key domains such as defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Prime Minister’s bilateral visit is anticipated to deepen the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and Argentina, according to an official statement.
In his statement upon departure, the Prime Minister noted that Argentina is an important economic ally in Latin America and a close partner in the G20, expressing his eagerness for discussions with President Javier Milei, whom he had met last year.
“Our focus will be on promoting our mutually beneficial cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment,” PM Modi expressed.
He arrived in Buenos Aires after completing his two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, where both nations signed six agreements to enhance bilateral relations.
During his time in Trinidad and Tobago, the Prime Minister was awarded ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago,’ making him the first foreign leader to receive the highest civilian honor from this Caribbean nation.
